48 Hours in San Diego: What To See, Do & Eat

San Diego is great if you’re looking for a weekend of relaxation and incredible food. Here are some spots to check out!

SHELTER ISLAND

We’ll start by driving out to Shelter Island to check in to the Kona Kai Resort & Spa - a beautiful & luxurious vacation getaway.

Kona Kai is paradise. With Polynesian decor, restaurant and spa on site, and a private beach looking out on to the Point Loma hillside, it feels like a tropical retreat - even though it’s just minutes away from the airport and the Gaslamp downtown district of San Diego.

You’ll also want to check out their on-site restaurant, Vessel, for great New American fare and some outstanding seafood dishes.

GASLAMP QUARTER

The Gaslamp Quarter is an historic district in downtown San Diego where you’ll find a mix of shops, entertainment, and every kind of food. And today, I’m taking you to the good stuff:

The Donut Bar features an inventive and locally-source menu of doughnuts that changes daily including vegan options, and craft beer.

SEAPORT VILLAGE

Seaport Village is a huge and popular tourist attraction in San Diego - offering waterfront shopping, entertainment, and tons of food. It’s also where you’ll be able to board a SEAL tour, taking you from land to San Diego’s Big Bay.

BALBOA PARK

Spanning 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is probably one of the most well-known historical landmarks in San Diego. Here, you’ll find Museums, Gardens & The Zoo - if you ever visit, plan to spend a whole day here.

LITTLE ITALY

Little Italy is where you’ll find some of the hippest restaurants and nightlife that San Diego has to offer.

Make sure to check out Underbelly, a hip spot for ramen and other Japanese fare in a pretty funky industrial inspired environment. And check out their anime inspired cocktails!

And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, pop into iDessert by Jean-Philippe, serving up multilayered desserts with gelato & fruits which double as works of art.

So! Whether you’re looking to relax, or run around the entire city eating everything in sight, these are just a few spots to check out during your weekend away. If you’ve got a favourite, let us know! See you next time… à la prochaine!
